Regulatory Process
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) is the state regulatory agency with authority to approve the location of certain new transmission lines. State law—Public Act 30 of 1995—requires transmission operators to seek siting approval from the MPSC for transmission lines that are greater than five miles in length and transfer electricity at 345 kilovolts (kV) or more. To learn more about the Public Act 30, please visit the MPSC’s website discussing Electric Transmission Line Siting – Public Act 30 of 1995.
The MPSC adopted Voluntary Guidelines for applications filed under Act 30. ITC will follow the MPSC’s Voluntary Guidelines for the Copperton Projects.
